Welsh side Swansea City are the only non-English club currently playing in the Premier League. The team was established in 1912 and joined the English Football league in 1921.

Over the years Swansea toiled in the obscurity of the lowest leagues of English football. The Swans first taste of top flight action came in 1981-1982. Two seasons later they were back down.

Another period of bouncing between divisions lasted until Swansea moved up to the Championship Division for the 2008-2009 season. Three years later the Swans defeated Reading in the Championship Playoffs and won promotion to the top flight.

While most pundits predicted that the club would be relegated immediately, Swansea has defied the odds. This is the team’s sixth straight year as members of the Premier League.

In 2013, Swansea defeated Bradford City 5-0 to win the League Cup at Wembley Stadium.
