5 possible replacements for Luis Enrique at Barcelona
4. Thomas Tuchel
The only man on this list without a prior connection to Barça, Tuchel is an option who may not be given a fair endorsement by many, despite being immensely popular with current club Borussia Dortmund.
The German’s ideas slightly differ from those traditionally in place at Barcelona, with counter attack the primary reference point at Dortmund and in Tuchel’s time at former club Mainz. But, unlike Cocu for example, he has proven himself to be very adept at the top level, re-establishing BVB as a force in the Champions League, where this season they have faced Real Madrid.
Although this term is not going so well domestically, with Dortmund currently fifth in the Bundesliga, Tuchel had a go at challenging Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich for the title in his debut campaign last term.
Soccer is an ever-moving sport, and it doesn’t take much for anybody’s tactical ideas to become stale and outdated. Enrique has already shifted the ideology slightly, and with Tuchel’s reputation as one of the most forward thinking coaches in the game, this could perhaps be a good fit if both teams were willing to compromise on their beliefs of how the game should be played.
Getting him out of Dortmund, though, is another question, meaning Thomas Tuchel’s presentation as Barcelona coach is unlikely to happen, but one to keep in mind for club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
