1. The MSN

First off, the most obvious reason why Luis Enrique’s side will always be a contender for any tournament they enter – their remarkable attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

For anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with why these players are as lauded as they are, take a look at the statistics. Between them, they have scored over 100 goals in the last two seasons, since first playing together back in 2014.

The story of their debut campaign just typifies their ability. Suarez had joined from Liverpool that year under the dark cloud of a ban from football after biting an opponent at the World Cup, meaning he couldn’t play until October, making his debut in none other than El Clasico.

Defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu that night led to serious questions, and a few months later, a serious feud between Messi and Enrique threatened to derail the campaign. But they all got their heads down to bring the treble to the Camp Nou.

Watching these players, it is easy to remember that they are in fact human. Their sublime performances have been so frequent over the past two-and-a-half years that when they do have a poor game, it can bring real criticism. But they have the ability to carry this team through the toughest times, often making even the best defences look like schoolboys.

If they stay fit, Barcelona are favourites for yet more European success this season.
