A look at the clubs looking to improve their squad in January with Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge finds himself at a crossroads in his footballing career. At 27 years old, he is still in his prime and requires a club situation that will allow for him to be the focal point of the attack. Injuries have certainly played their part over the years, but Sturridge is now healthy and needs match minutes to produce goals.
At his best, Sturridge is a centre-forward who can take over a match with his pace and skill on the ball. He can score goals in a variety of ways and constantly pressures the opposing defence. His 2013-14 campaign with Liverpool was simply electric, scoring 25 goals across all competitions for the Reds.
Sturridge honed his skills in the Manchester City academy, eventually making his debut with the first team in early 2007. A move to Chelsea followed in the summer of 2009, but management changes and the depth at both clubs made consistent playing time difficult to come by.
A transfer to Liverpool and a partnership with Luis Suarez seemed to be the perfect fit for the English international. But injuries once again reared their ugly head and Sturridge struggled to stay on the pitch. The arrival of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield has seen Sturridge’s playing time tumble even further. Sturridge has made only eight Premier League appearances this season, with half coming as a substitute.
With Klopp preferring different strikers at the top of his formation, a change of scenery for Daniel Sturridge in January could see him rediscover the form that made him one of England’s best players.
There are certainly many clubs that would be interested in his services, and we look at five who will push to make it happen.
