Harry Winks-8

For the first 85 minutes, Harry Winks was the only Tottenham bright spot during a pretty dismal evening. The young English midfielder acquitted himself quite well in his first Premier League start.

Winks did everything that was asked of him. He played a box-to-box match and kept the ball moving at a brisk pace. In time he’ll need to expand his offensive game, but that’s nitpicking.

You can’t discuss Winks’ night without talking about his goal. If you’re a Tottenham fan that wasn’t moved by his joyous celebration you need to go see a cardiologist. It was a beautifully honest celebration by everyone at the club.

Victor Wanyama-7

It wasn’t the Kenyan’s best effort. He allowed Payet and Lanzini to have a little bit too much joy for my liking. It’s a tall task to keep such talented players quiet, but Wanyama is capable of that sort of brilliance.

It’s not as if he was poor on the evening though. Payet was dangerous, but didn’t really hurt Spurs. Lanzini’s goal came via the penalty. Wanyama is capable of playing better, but if last night’s match represents his worst, Spurs have a world-class defensive midfielder.
