5 potential replacements for Jurgen Klinsmann
3. Caleb Porter: The Cascadian Coach that knows how to win
Caleb Porter is a man who knows the meaning of success. He coached the Portland Timbers to the 2015 MLS Cup championship. He took the Akron Zips to 2010 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship and was named the 2013 MLS Coach of the year and has two MLS Conference Championships under his belt. Also, according to MLSsoccer.com, he’s the best-dressed manager in MLS, for what’s the worth to all of you.
Aside from his domestic success, Porter does hold National Team coaching experience, something that many fans and pundits often forget. Back in 2011, Porter coached the U-23’s in their quest for London Olympic qualification. However, a loss to Canada and draw to El Salvador ultimately ended their run for qualification.
Things have changed since 2012 in U.S. Soccer, however, Porter is linked to the growth of MLS players making the jump to their respective national teams. Many fans remember Darlington Nagbe’s promising run for the USMNT until his falling out with Klinsmann. Nagbe is still plenty young and full of talent and having his club coach at the helm could open the door for his return.
