5. Marcos Rashford

If the powers that be in the Spanish capital decide to look long-term for their next big target, then Marcos Rashford would be a different but worthwhile option.

The 19-year-old striker has been a shining light in dark times at Manchester United since breaking into the first team under Louis van Gaal last season. Despite current boss Jose Mourinho’s reputation for stifling young players’ development, Rashford has continued to make easy work of first team football.

Before the European Championships in the summer, there was a real debate as to whether an inclusion in the England was sensible. Although he has not yet made a splash on the international scene, it is clear the nation’s hopes lie with him in the future.

More from Real Madrid

The Red Devils are well-known for producing top players from their academy, but it can be argued that none of the previous names, including David Beckham and Ryan Giggs, had a tougher introduction than Rashford.

Both those players, and many more, were given an opportunity by Sir Alex Ferguson, meaning they entered a team fit for title challenges. Under Van Gaal, United were struggling to find an identity, but Rashford certainly found one for himself.

There is no doubting that he has all the attributes to become a world-class player one day. Tentative links to Real Madrid have been made already, and players have moved in that direction before. Could Marcus Rashford follow Cristiano Ronaldo one day?
