4. Bayern Munich

Similar to Shanghai, the presence of a previous boss makes this one seem feasible, and if James is to leave Real Madrid, Bayern are the level of club he would want to join.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are not showing the same level of invincibility as in previous years, having lost their lead in the Bundesliga to newly-promoted RB Leipzig. Their Champions League journey is also stuttering, which few people expected.

Bayern are a club who understand how frustrating it can be when an expensively signed playmaker fails to make an impact. Mario Goetze was sold back to Borussia Dortmund for almost half the $40million he arrived for three years earlier.

But with James looking lost, perhaps the superb man management skills, not to mention tactical nous, of Ancelotti could unlock his talents. Ironically, that is exactly what he did for the man ousted to make way for Rodriguez at Real Madrid, Angel Di Maria.

While Barcelona and Real have become accustomed to housing superstars, Bayern have often been more about the cohesive unit. The main criticism of Rodriguez is his work rate, but Ancelotti got the best from him in Spain back in 2014/15.

It would also be interesting to watch James tackle the Bundesliga, a much less technical division than LaLiga, Ligue 1 or the Portuguese Superliga.
