5. Paris Saint-Germain

Finally, the dominant force of French football. PSG are backed by heavily rich owners, but James is no stranger to moving to Ligue 1 for big money, having joined Monaco in 2013 as they embarked on a similar project.

With the likes of Di Maria, who has reverted to a winger, Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore in the squad already, there may appear to be much room for a player who would command so much in fees, wages and playing time.

But PSG have marketed themselves as the most ambitious club in Europe, arguably, and it is hard to believe they would turn down an opportunity to sign a Real Madrid star, let alone one with so much still to give as James.

More from Real Madrid

With Unai Emery, the man who won three straight Europa League crowns with Sevilla, at the helm, PSG are really pushing forward. James’ ex-teammate and namesake Jese Rodriguez was their biggest coup last summer, but they could look in the Colombian’s direction.

Whether James would want to return to France and the perceived ‘weak’ Ligue 1, or if he would be comfortable signing for a direct rival of Monaco, remains to be seen. But if he becomes available, do not be surprised to see PSG’s name towards the front of the queue.
