Erik Lamela

The ability to regain full fitness is a recurring theme of this piece. Erik Lamela is another Spurs star who’s going to need to see his body recover if Tottenham are going to reach their full potential.

The Argentine attacker isn’t the sort of player who can really perform at his peak without full fitness. Much of his value is derived from his ability to run his socks off and harass the opposition. If he can’t play energetic and mean, he isn’t going to be worth much to anyone.

The good news is that he should be back in the lineup soon. Once he returns, he should be thrust right back into the starting XI. Spurs need his piss and vinegar back in the lineup again. I really miss his petulance out on the pitch.

It might make sense to ease Lamela back into the lineup, but I don’t see that working for Lamela on an emotional level. Pochettino may as well throw Lamela back to the wolves. Come to think of it, Lamela is much more wolf than lamb.
