Christian Eriksen

The stylish Danish attacker finally broke his goal drought with a sumptuous striker at Stamford Bridge yesterday. He still has a lot of work to do to play to his full potential though.

Pochettino could certainly help Eriksen by providing him a consistent position on the pitch. In some ways, he and Alli get in one another’s way when they play together. Given the fact that Alli is the younger, superior talent, Eriksen is going to have to figure out how to coexist with the English starlet.

That gives Pochettino two choices. He can either transition Eriksen to a winger or a deeper-lying midfield role. Initially I hoped he could morph into a Luka Modric type midfielder, but I just don’t think he has the defensive chops to make that move.

That means it’s time to put him out on the wing. This may surprise some people, but I think he’s better off as playing out on the right. I’m less concerned with his ability to cut inside and score with his ability to provide quality service to Tottenham’s strikers. A move out to the right flank could pay big dividends for all of Tottenham’s attackers.
