Victor Wanyama
While some of Tottenham’s summer signings haven’t worked out according to plan, that certainly can’t be said about Victor Wanyama. The Kenyan attacker has been a revelation for his old boss.
There isn’t much Wanyama needs to do to improve his game. On the defensive side of the pitch, he’s already one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The only tweak he needs to make on that end of the field is to make sure he doesn’t let the temper get the best of him on the pitch. So far as a Spurs player, he’s avoided the big emotional mistake.
The area of Wanyama’s area that can grow is his offensive game. He actually has a lot of similarities to Mousa Dembele on that end of the pitch as well. Both men have the ability to use their physicality to carry the ball into the opponents final third.
Also like Dembele, Wanyama needs to work on what he does with the ball once he actually gets there. Right now, he can be largely wasteful with the ball. Pochettino and company need to spend significant time with their Kenyan destroyer to help him become more economical with the ball in the final third. If he can add that to his game, we could be talking about one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.
