Son Heung-Min

Regular readers of my work understand that I’m not the South Korean’s biggest fan. He is entirely too inconsistent for my taste. I do, however, understand that he’s capable of patches of terrific offensive form.

His goal scoring early in Kane’s injury absence kept Tottenham afloat. Unfortunately, he’s been pretty poor after that run of goals.

Some Spurs fans might point to his substitute appearance against West Ham as evidence to the contrary. I’ll admit he had a few moments of brilliance against the Hammers, but I’d still point out that he was awful before his quality cross to Kane.

At any rate, there’s talent to work with there. The key for Tottenham is finding a way to maximize it and pull it out of him consistently. The first thing that needs to be done is a serious transformation of Son’s body. He must get stronger in both the upper and lower body to compete with the physical defenders of the Premier League.

Perhaps if he could add 15 or 20 pounds of muscle, he could find a way into Pochettino’s starting XI on a regular basis. In truth, I think that’s the only way he manages to stay at Tottenham long-term. If he stays at his current weight, he’ll be shipped back to Germany in the summer.
