Tottenham repair guide: How Pochettino can fix each Spurs star
Kevin Wimmer
There might not be another member of the Tottenham squad who has seen his stock slip more than Austrian centre back Kevin Wimmer. He went from a bright foundational piece of Pochettino’s back line to a defender that only sees the pitch due to injury at the current point in time.
The best thing Spurs can do for Wimmer is to establish a clear role for him. He doesn’t need to become a regular starter, but playing him at Chelsea as a left back certainly isn’t going to help increase his comfort level.
Once Toby Alderweireld returns from injury, Wimmer needs to go back to the bench. He needs to work hard to form a solid understanding with his potential defensive partners in training. The more comfortable he becomes in training, the better he’s going to play when the action really counts.
Pochettino needs to be careful not to bury the Austrian though. In the event of another serious injury, he needs to be ready to step right back into the starting XI. He’s another player who needs to get a few starts against some of the Premier League’s weaker sides.
