1. He disgraces the club

As I mentioned in the open, hiring Mourinho was an example of Manchester United making a kind of deal with the devil. They were willing to overlook his antics and lack of fit with their culture in exchange for winning football matches.

If I were a United fan I would not have been willing to make this sort of deal. Part of what makes Manchester United special is the prestige and tradition associated with the club. Say what you want about David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, they seemed to have a much better understanding of that than Mourinho.

More from Manchester United

The current United manager currently faces a potential two match ban after being sent off against West Ham. It says a lot about Mourinho that this barely qualifies as news. It’s simply the status quo for the Portuguese manager. Him being forced to watch a match from the stands just isn’t something that shocks anyone.

I suppose my main reason for believing United should fire Mourinho is my belief that they never should have hired him in the first place. He’s certainly a talented manager, but he was never the right fit for a club with the history and tradition of Manchester United. It’s a classic example of hiring a manager based entirely on his record while completely ignoring his cultural fit.
