Left Back – Marcelo, Real Madrid

This one would have been more debatable had Jordi Alba been fit enough to play, but as it is, the Spaniard misses out on the match, so he misses out on this team.

Alba’s equally as effective in attacking areas and slightly better defensively than Marcelo, the man who takes his spot here. But the Brazilian is probably the second best in the world in this position, so there could be no better replacement.

If there is a word to describe Marcelo, it would probably be quirky. His personality often shines through in his play, as he loves to help support attacks in wide areas. He has grown with age, though, meaning he is now much more disciplined than in his younger days.

Alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, he is also one of the most vocal players in Los Blancos’ dressing room. He would definitely be at home if Barcelona and Real Madrid were ever to collaborate in some sort of alternate universe.
