David Moyes – Sunderland
It is never easy to follow a legend, and the term “legend” does not even seem grand enough to describe Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. The role of his successor was always going to be difficult and David Moyes did his best after Ferguson retired.
It did not work out well.
Moyes was sacked before completing his first full season at Old Trafford. A disappointing spell at Real Sociedad in La Liga followed and ended with the same fate. He returned to the Premier League this summer with Sunderland, taking over for Sam Allardyce (that name just keeps popping up doesn’t it?).
After just barely avoiding relegation last season, the Black Cats looked to Moyes to lead them to more consistent form and set them up for future success. Although still near the bottom of the table, Sunderland’s Scottish manager has begun to see his side improve their overall play. Sunderland have won two out of their last three league matches.
One of only four managers to win 150 Premier League matches (Ferguson, Arsene Wenger & Harry Redknapp), Moyes spent over a decade managing Everton. The Toffees often finished in the top half of the table during those seasons and were a capable squad. Their FA Cup semi-final victory in 2009 over Manchester United was a memorable moment for the club.
Although the past few years have seen down times, David Moyes has been one of most consistent managers in the Premier League.
