Tony Pulis – West Bromwich Albion
One of the most recognisable managerial figures in the Premier League with his trademark track suit and baseball cap, Tony Pulis has achieved incredible success for several clubs during his career. His time in charge of Stoke City and Crystal Palace brought victories and excitement, while he continues to do the same now at West Bromwich Albion.
After various stops in the 1990’s, Pulis began his first stint at Stoke in November of 2002 and took over a struggling side. A club that was almost certain to be relegated managed to stay in the First Division with a victory in their final match, completing a season that the Welshman is proud of to this very day.
Conflicts with ownership led to his departure in 2005, only to return when the Potters were under a new regime a year later.
Pulis’ time at the Britannia Stadium was one of belief, from both the club’s players and supporters. Consistent Premier League campaigns, an FA Cup final and an appearance in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Europa League highlighted his abilities.
His long ball tactics can frustrate some, but his ability to take a team on the brink to new heights is uncanny. Taking over Crystal Palace in November of 2013, Pulis was named Premier League Manager of the Season after an incredible run that saw a mid-table finish instead of expected relegation.
Pulis became the manager of West Brom in January of last year and has produced positive results in league play and domestic cup competitions. Currently in the top half of the standings this season, the Baggies are poised to continue their strong form.
Never relegated as a player or as a manager, Tony Pulis has shined in the art of survival and achieved great success in the Premier League.
