Mark Hughes – Stoke City

One of Manchester United’s most talented forwards during the early 1990’s, Mark Hughes has become a familiar and successful face in Premier League management. One of his best attributes is the ability to build a squad and find great talent within the transfer market.

After his playing career came to an end, Hughes took over the national team for his home country of Wales. While the side struggled during much of his time there, Hughes did get Wales extremely close to qualifying for Euro 2004.

Hughes built a strong line-up at Blackburn Rovers in the years following and became the manager at Manchester City in the summer of 2008. Soon after, the City Football Group purchased the club and began to put together a formidable side.

However, the new owners did not always agree with Hughes’ views and he was replaced the following year by Roberto Mancini. Stops at Fulham and Queens Park Rangers eventually brought Hughes to Stoke-on-Trent in 2013.

With a desire to change the approach and tactics of the Potters, Hughes enlisted talent like Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan Krcic to dramatically alter the Stoke attack. Players like Jack Butland, Joe Allen and Ibrahim Afellay provide quality at a variety of positions.

The current campaign has seen early difficulties, but sharp roster moves and Mark Hughes’ Premier League experience will begin to bring success for Stoke City.
