3. They are at home

I know that some fans expect professional footballers to act like robots who play the same way no matter where the match is held. Clearly, I don’t subscribe to that philosophy. I realize home field advantage can be huge in this sort of encounter.

Fortunately for Real Madrid, they host Dortmund on Wednesday. They’ll play the match in the friendly confines of Santiago Bernabeu. You can expect a raucous atmosphere for the match where the stadium will be filled by a passionate throng of Real Madrid supporters.

For the record, I’m not saying that Dortmund are going to be overly intimidated by the occasion. They aren’t Champions League minnows. Thomas Tuchel’s squad play in some really challenging environments in Germany. It’s more about how much Real Madrid will be buoyed by their home supporters than how Dortmund might be negatively impacted.

Wednesday will be a raucous atmosphere considering everything that’s on the line for Real Madrid. Their fans know they need to power their squad to the top spot in Group F. Expect their supporters to be in full voice from the opening whistle.
