5 reasons Barcelona should sign Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich
4. No immediate threat to the superstars
Looking at the other side of the argument about signing stars for now or not, Kimmich’s young age would mean he would only start developing into the player his pitential promises once the likes of Busquets, who is now 28, are winding down their careers.
That isn’t to say that those players wouldn’t see Kimmich as a threat or that the German midfielder s not yet good enough to play for Barcelona. But he could learn from the more experienced players, as he will likely do at Bayern. There is no better place to hone and develop skills as a midfielder than the Camp Nou.
The outlook in central areas will likely change for Barça very soon. Iniesta will only decline from here at the age of 32, meaning Busquets will likely become the main man in that position. From there, a long-term plan is yet to be found, and Kimmich could be an option if the Blaugrana decide to put something in place now.
Rumours linking Ilkay Gundogan with a switch to the LaLiga champions during his stint at Borussia Dortmund made sense, and Kimmich is a similar type of all-action midfielder. It is unlikely the next star is coming from within, so this is a deal which makes sense.
