5. Bayern are not as strong as before

Now, the biggest question left unanswered is just how would Barcelona be able to prize Kimmich away from Bayern Munich? It is a deal which is unlikely to happen because the youngster will rightly point out he can develop into the player he wants to become right where he is under Carlo Ancelotti.

But it isn’t impossible that he would fancy the challenge of moving to Spain, like Kroos did by joining Real, then coached by Ancelotti, in 2014. While they remain favourites for the Bundesliga title, Bayern do not have the same air of invincibility as they did under Guardiola, having shown weakness at times this season.

Finishing behind Atletico Madrid in their Champions League group, having lost to Russian minnows Rostov, could prove costly in their hunt for European glory. Domestically, they are currently in a battle with RB Leipzig, while Borussia Dortmund are also likely to cause them problems in their pursuit this season.

Naturally, the club are facing something of a transitional phase after th very demanding three-year spell of Pep Guardiola, and Carlo Ancelotti deserves time to put things right and there is little doubt he will eventually. If he doesn’t fix Bayern’s weaknesses, though, then their players may begin to look elsewhere for the sake of their futures. Could Joshua Kimmich be one of those?
