Age

One of the key components for any smart transfer in world football is a player’s age. Clubs look for immediate impact on the pitch, but also want to ensure that their target can consistently contribute to their side in the long-term.

Dimitri Payet’s age calls his possible transfer into question for Manchester United.

More from Manchester United

The French midfielder will be turning 30 in March and will not have the same pace in the coming years. United’s overall approach should be shifting towards the future with how they will engage the transfer market.

The addition of Pogba was a step in the right direction in terms of an emphasis on younger players. But the likes of Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick do not necessarily fit for the future.

Manchester United should focus their attention and transfer funds on players that can be a part of the roster and focal points of the line-up for multiple years to come.
