A hefty transfer fee

Manchester United have never been shy about spending in the transfer periods. For many years, they have been a major player on the global market and are normally linked with some of the most high-profile footballers in the world.

But this past summer was massive even by their lofty standards.

The record-breaking move for Paul Pogba and the addition of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund add up to some astounding numbers. On these two players alone, United have committed a reported 115 million pounds in transfer fees.

Rumoured to have a fee possibly in the range of 60 million pounds over the summer, ownership may not want to see such lavish numbers continue to be spent when the club is struggling to integrate all of their recent signings.

Dimitri Payet is a fantastic player and possesses incredible skill, but his price tag on the January transfer market is too steep for Manchester United at this point.
