The funds spent in the transfer market were not unexpected, as the arrival of Jose Mourinho was bound to bring change to the first team. But with so much money spent recently, there should be a focus on Manchester United’s talented youth and academy system.

A transfer fee in the range of 50 to 60 million pounds could go a long way in continuing to develop talent from within. Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard each came up through United’s famed system.
The U-21 squad captured a league title last season and with several promising youngsters in their ranks, money spent on Dimitri Payet may be too focused on the present time. With other talented players at Payet’s position already in the line-up, United would be wise to go in a different direction in January.
Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will be active during the winter transfer period in a variety of different ways. However, Dimitri Payet should not be a part of those plans moving forward.
