Could Liverpool FC target Quincy Promes in January?

4. Quincy Promes

One name that has been floating in and out of the transfer scene has been that of Spartak Moscow wide man Quincy Promes.

The 24-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Russian side in the RPL and has tallied an impressive six goals and six assists in that time, but the reviews so far seem a mixed bag. On the one hand, the Dutch product has loads of attacking ability, a solid eye for goal, and on first look seems to fit the quick-moving, free-flowing attacking style that Liverpool has employed this season.

With one goal and one assist in his last three games, Promes has helped Spartak Moscow to five points clear of Zenit St. Petersburg at the top of the table through 17 games.

However, despite his assist numbers have gone up since last year, he’s on pace for scoring just over half the amount of goals (18) he scored last year in the Premier League and doesn’t seem to have added much to his game that wasn’t already there. Of course, his six goals do have him sitting in sixth in the scoring charts while his six assists lead the league, but take that for what you will.

A potential positive to his game is that he’d link up well with another LFC new boy in Gini Wijnaldum with the Dutch connection running, but it’s unclear whether he would be given the sort of minutes he may need to adjust to the English game. Add that to the fact that, even if he was given the minutes in January it could all disappear when Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho return to the side, and his addition still seems up in the air.
