The Attacking Midfield

In my estimation, this is the trickiest area of selection for Pochettino this week. He hasn’t gotten the production he wants from his attacking trio this season, and he needs to give them a spark. The question is whether or not they’d be best served with rest or an opportunity to beat up on Hull.

I believe Spurs will choose the former. There’s just no reason for Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli to be risked in this match. Expect that duo, just like the club’s starting fullbacks, to remain on the bench. Pochettino will hope to grab an early lead that would allow him to give both men the complete day off.

Of course, Pochettino still has to select three players he believes are capable of supporting the striker. I would be very surprised of Moussa Sissoko isn’t one of those three. He and his manager have had their issues, but he was excellent off the bench against Manchester United. Look for him to build off that with a really strong effort against Hull.

The other two spots are much more difficult to predict. I’d like to think that Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has done enough to earn a Premier League start. He’s shown enough off the bench as of late to merit a larger role. Pencil the Frenchman in for a big opportunity.

The third spot in the trio will likely belong to Son Heung-Min. The Korean would be well advised to put in a solid shift on Wednesday. If he doesn’t, he could find his posterior nailed to the White Hart Lane bench for the foreseeable future. To be honest, I’d rather see Josh Onomah get the start, but I don’t see Pochettino taking that risk.
