Manchester City finished runners-up in Group C behind Barcelona. They have been given a somewhat favorable draw against French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Pep Guardiola’s team had been cruising along in the Premier League before Chelsea came to Manchester and humbled his squad. The loss to Chelsea was followed by a humiliating defeat in monsoon like weather at Leicester.

Monaco are second in Ligue 1 and have scored an amazing 53 goals in 17 matches so far. Since leaving England Radamel Falcao has been scoring regularly.  He is joined up front by Argentine striker Guido Carrillo who has seven goals in league play.

Of course City will have Sergio Aguero back in the lineup when the two teams meet in February. Plus Guardiola will have sorted out his defensive situation by then.

On paper Manchester City should be victorious. However, based on current form Monaco are more likely to make it through to the quarterfinals.
