Why Arsenal will get the better of Bayern Munich in the new year.

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw has brought several exciting matches to look forward to in 2017. Perhaps no other encounter brought a stronger reaction of anticipation and intrigue than Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Fans and supporters seemed to almost know what was coming before the draw on Monday. After eliminating the Gunners in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions of the tournament, a cruel twist of fate brings these two high-profile clubs together yet again in the knockout rounds.

Arsenal finished on top of Group A and avoided having to face a group-winner in the Round of 16. But with Bayern finishing second in their group to Atletico Madrid, manager Arsene Wenger must be wondering exactly how “random” the UEFA draw actually is.

But the 2016-17 season can bring a much different outcome for the North London side. Currently third in the Premier League table, Arsenal have been in good form and played well during the group stage of the Champions League.

A 14-match unbeaten streak in league play only recently ended this week with a loss at Everton.

Bayern Munich currently top the Bundesliga standings, but have not been as dominant under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Looking ahead to February, we highlight why Arsenal will have much more positive results against Bayern Munich in this year’s Champions League competition.
