Mesut Ozil

One of the focal points of Arsenal’s tactical approach is German international midfielder Mesut Ozil. The former Real Madrid star has been fantastic in his creative role for the Gunners’ attack.

Arriving at the Emirates during the 2013-14 season, Ozil has been a revelation for Wenger’s side. His vision and passing accuracy within the middle of the formation allows others in the squad to flourish.

Ozil was still finding his feet within his new club when these two sides last met in the knockout rounds and his knowledge of the opposition will be a key element to the encounter in 2017.

Ozil brings a unique perspective to this Round of 16 tie. Years spent at Schalke, Werder Bremen and with the German national team afford him an intimate knowledge of the Bayern Munich players. Having played against and with various members of Arsenal’s opponents over the years, Ozil will be able to assist with several intangibles over the two legs.

With five goals and two assists already this season, Ozil will likely be rounding into top gear when the Champions League resumes.

Arsenal should feel more than confident in their midfield maestro against Bayern Munich.
