Merseyside Derby: Five things to watch for

3. Switching sides

It’s not uncommon for both teams to have players in their side that once supported (or still do!) their opposite number. Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler grew up Everton fans and still get stick for it, while likes of Nick Barmby, who eventually made the switch, Gary Ablett, and Mike Newell all grew up Reds.

This year’s Merseyside Derby features the likes of boyhood Everton fan Adam Lallana against one-time Liverpool fan Ashley Williams, with both players holding the potential to make a significant impact in the match. Lallana is in fine form heading into the match and has scored three goals with one assist in his last two matches. In Liverpool’s fluid attack, he will again be at the heart of a pumping and probing front three that will strike fear into the hearts of Everton supporters.
