Chelsea have opened up an impressive lead at the top of the table, but City are well primed for a late season surge.

Much of the off-season in England was spent eulogizing over the prospect of super-coaches Mourinho and Guardiola contesting a close-ran title race in Manchester, but it’s Chelsea and Conte – the Premier League’s other dapper newcomer – who are in pole position at halfway.

The Italian doesn’t have the same profile of some of his contemporaries, but he’s struck upon a winning formula in West London, and having clocked up 11 successive Premier League victories (and counting), his side’s charge for their second title in three seasons is beginning to gather pace.

The bookies aren’t paying out just yet, though, and there’s no guarantee that Chelsea’s form will last when you consider the disastrous campaign that preceded Conte’s arrival. If they do slip up, there’s one side (and let’s face it, United fans, there is only one side) that will be snapping at their heels.
