A pound for every time that you’ll have heard Pogba’s transfer fee mentioned over the course of the last few months, you could probably buy Pogba yourself.

The Frenchman has been the centre of attention ever since his arrival, and a relatively slow start to his second spell at the Theatre of Dreams put him right under the spotlight for not delivering the product of quality that a £89m signing should bring.

It seemed to afford him no time to settle into his new club, putting every bad touch of the ball and every blade of grass he covered as a contribution towards one big joke that United had overpaid for a overrated player.

Quite wrong they were – regardless of the transfer fee, it shouldn’t truly dictate the judgement of whether a player is a hit or a flop within his first few games. The Pogba story tells that tale very well, because over the last few weeks the ex-Juventus star has impressed and thrived in his new role as part of a midfield trio. His importance to the team grows by the week, and Mourinho’s idea of integrating him into the team in a more advanced position is one that is working well not only for the player himself, but also the manager and the team.

The facts spit the truth, and a certain one is as clear as day: As long as Pogba delivers, United will reap the benefits.
