5. Steven N’Zonzi

The Sevilla midfielder is the latest big name to be linked with a move to Tottenham. He’s certainly a quality player, but I struggle to see how he’d really help Spurs in the short-term.

More from Playing for 90

The only position N’Zonzi can play is in central defense. He cannot fill one of Pochettino’s attacking midfield spots. As a result, he’d just add to the likes of Mousa Dembele, VIctor Wanyama and Eric Dier in the club’s double-pivot rotation.

As a result, he’d only be a luxury purchase for Spurs. Pochettino already has sufficient options in front of the back four. It’s almost impossible to imagine Levy spending the expected transfer fee of £30 million or more to bring N’Zonzi to White Hart Lane.

Signing N’Zonzi would also require the club to beat the likes of Barcelona for his signature. I could go on and on with more reasons why he won’t be coming to White Hart Lane in January. He’s an excellent player, but he isn’t a worthwhile signing for Spurs.
