4. Max Meyer
The German youngster is almost the complete opposite of Steven N’Zonzi. He clearly fits a positional need for Spurs, but it’s questionable as to whether or not he’s capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.
Even if the club don’t think he can play an important role immediately, he might be worth purchasing to develop for the future. It’s easy to see him growing into a real star over the next season or two. That’s not a certainty, but it’s a reasonable gamble for a club like Tottenham to take on.
My take on Meyer is that he’s a secondary target for Pochettino. The club clearly like him, and have tried to sign him in the past. That doesn’t mean he’s going to be a huge priority in January though.
Look for Tottenham to return for Meyer in the summer. They should have a good relationship with Schalke after sending Nabil Bentaleb in their direction. The summer price should also be much more to Spurs’ liking. Signing Meyer in January isn’t impossible, it’s just improbable.
