4. Tottenham remember

If any Chelsea players are under the impression that Tottenham have forgotten about last May’s contentious fixture, let me assure you they have not. This is a match that every member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad has had circled on the calendar all season long.

Don’t believe me? Then why did Jan Vertonghen say the rivalry with Chelsea has reached the same heights as Spurs’ bitter North London rivalry with Arsenal? The Belgian defender isn’t lying, it’s the way the squad feels about the Blues at the moment.

Tottenham probably wouldn’t have won the Premier League last season if they didn’t capitulate at Stamford Bridge, but that isn’t the point. The point here is that each Spurs star has had to listen to their Chelsea counterparts delight in denying Spurs the title last season. Don’t think for a moment those comments have gone unnoticed.

Tensions will run high on both sides, but Spurs will have revenge on their minds. That’s a powerful motivator that will allow Pochettino’s men to emerge victorious.
