2. Spurs have width
For all the talk of the attacking talent possessed by both clubs, it’s Tottenham’s two fullbacks that may win Spurs the day. Kyle Walker and Danny Rose give Pochettino’s club real width in the attacking third. That width could be uniquely suited to handle Chelsea’s wide players.
Make no mistake about it, Rose and Walker are the best fullback combination in the Premier League. There’s a reason both men find themselves starting for England on a regular basis. Their athleticism and sheer determination to win football matches make them a dominating duo.
In truth, fullback is the most difficult position to play under Pochettino. He requires his wingbacks to contribute mightily in defense and quickly transition into attack whenever possible. It requires an amazing amount of physical and mental stamina. His high expectations have helped mold Rose and Walker into world-class fullbacks.
Chelsea usually enjoy the advantage on the flank due Conte’s formational preference. The Blues won’t win the wide battle today. Instead, look for Rose and Walker to cause Chelsea real problems on both ends of the pitch.
