Barcelona have their eye on Jurgen Klopp

Barcelona won’t meet Liverpool on the pitch this year, but the La Liga giants could crush the Reds’ title hopes. If Barca are able to pry Jurgen Klopp away from Anfield it could set the Premier League club back for years to come.

Spanish journalist Don Balon reports that Barcelona have Klopp on their list of managerial targets when they elect to give Luis Enrique the axe. That sort of news should have all of Liverpool on high alert.

Inevitably, Liverpool fans reading this will believe that Klopp adores life at Anfield so much that he wouldn’t think of leaving. The rest of us know better. The allure of Barcelona is strong enough to turn the head of even the happiest manager. If they come calling, you can be sure Klopp will listen.

I do not, however, think him leaving Liverpool is a certainty if Barcelona make a move. Klopp knows he has something special going on at Anfield. Moving to the Spanish giants could be a bit like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. He’d be wise to consider how much of a risk moving to Barcelona would be.

On the other hand, the offensive talent at Camp Nou is downright seductive. Klopp enjoys working with a really talented group at Liverpool, but each of his current stars would struggle to get into the starting XI at Barcelona. That’s not a knock on players like Coutinho or Mane, rather it’s a compliment to the likes of Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

More from FC Barcelona

The higher-ups at Liverpool need to do everything in their power to snuff this rumor out before it’s able to pick up steam. Klopp’s departure would be a crippling blow for the club. It’s not as if they’d slide down into the morass of a relegation battle, but their chances at winning a title anytime soon would be greatly diminished. If Liverpool want to achieve glory in the next few years, they must keep hold of Klopp no matter the cost.

When Barcelona move on from Luis Enrique they’ll have every intention of attracting one of the world’s best managers. Jurgen Klopp certainly fits that definition. The Reds have a lot to be worried about.
