2. Quincy Promes – Spartak Moscow

Still waiting on why Promes’s name is still being linked with Liverpool FC, but it might have something to do with LFC midfielder Gini Wijnaldum openly admitting he would welcome fellow Dutch international at the club. Promes featured in our last round of potential signees for the Reds, but it still appears his price tag is too steep for Liverpool even with reports that Fenway Sports Group has backed Jurgen Klopp with £40 million to spend this month.

That said, the obvious link here is that Liverpool will be without the enigmatic Sadio Mane as the winger reports for AFCON duties with Senegal. But, Klopp mentioned on multiple occasions that they would not sign a replacement solely for the month of January.

And while Promes is a promising player (sorry, I had to), it remains to be seen whether a player of his caliber would be willing to move to a club like Liverpool and either a) not feature upon the return of Mane or b) not break into the side with other talents earning minutes.

As things stand, Promes will be with Spartak Moscow at the end of the month. There is still plenty of time for that to change, of course. But, if the entire transfer kitty rumored to have been given to Klopp won’t cover the player’s fee, then it’s unlikely to happen. Perhaps revisiting over the summer would be best for both parties.
