Manchester City – 2 wins – 1 loss – 6 points gained – Losers

It might be unfair to call Manchester City losers, but a 0-1 loss at Anfield will be looked at as three points lost by Pep Guardiola.

The holidays began well enough with City easily dispatching of Hull 0-3.

Net up was a trip to Anfield which was billed as a battle between head coaches Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

The only goal of the match came in the eighth minute when Georginio Wijnaldum headed home from an Adam Lallana cross. City put in a noble effort but Liverpool’s defense held out for an important victory.

The media are quick to over dramatize every loss as the end of a title run. While that is certainly far from the truth, Liverpool did add to the pressure on Guardiola’s side.

City finished its holiday schedule with a 2-1 victory at home to Burnley. Fernandinho’s red card took away from the win. Astonishingly it was the midfielder’s third red card in just six matches.
