Southampton – 0 wins – 0 points gained – Losers

Poor Southampton had the roughest task of all over the holidays. Despite many managers questioning the fairness of the fixture schedule, the Saints played three matches in the span of six days.

Things didn’t go too well. First up was a visit from Tottenham which ended with the home side losing 1-4. The task was made even more difficult when Nathan Redmond brought down Dele Alli in the box to concede a penalty. Despite Harry Kane missing the spot kick, Redmond saw red.

West Brom came to the south coast on New Year’s Eve and left with all three points.  Virgil van Dijk was sent off for a second yellow card in the 89th minute and the final scored was 1-2 in favor of the visitors

The Saints traveled north to Liverpool to start the new year. Unfortunately 2017 began the same way as 2016 ended; with a loss.

Southampton’s three losses moved the club from seventh to tenth in the standings.
