Gabriel sees red after clash with Diego Costa

Whenever Arsenal and Chelsea meet there is always tension. Mike Dean didn’t help matters when he served as referee for the Gunners’ visit to Stamford Bridge in September 2015.

Unsurprisingly the always hot-headed Diego Costa was at the center of the controversy.

Just before half time, Costa tussled with Laurent Koscielny and slapped the defender in the face. Gabriel came to his partner’s aid and ended up kicking out at the Chelsea striker.

Mike Dean produced a red card and gave Gabriel his marching orders. The instigator of the entire incident was Costa, but he was allowed to stay on the pitch.

Arsenal were reduced to ten men with half of the match remaining and went on to lose 0-2.

Upon further review the FA rescinded Gabriel’s red card and served Costa with a three match ban. As in the West Ham match, even though justice was served in the end, the unfair result stood.
