Number two: Romelu Lukaku, Everton
Chelsea tried desperately to prise Lukaku away from Everton in the recent transfer window but failed. They would not budge on their £65m price tag.
Antonio Conte didn’t think he was worth that much and Chelsea called a halt to their pursuit. Chelsea will go after him again if Costa decides to go in the summer,
This move makes sense. Lukaku used to be a Chelsea player and while we did sell him for only £28m, it would be a wise investment to make given he’s only 23-years-old. The Belgium striker is also a big fan of Chelsea.
The towering striker has scored 18 goals in 25 appearances for club and country this season.
He will perfectly replace Costa given their similar size and ability to physically bully defenders. Lukaku is also deceivingly quick for a big guy and is much faster than Costa on the ball. Conte would have to work on his hold-up play though if he intends on making Lukaku the pivotal figure in Chelsea’s three-pronged attack.
A figure of around £70m should be enough to convince the toffees to sell. Especially if Lukaku forces a move which is highly likely.
He is one of only five players to score 50 goals in the Premier League before their 23rd birthday. His goal scoring record is ridiculous. He has scored ten or more goals in every season of the Premier League since 2012. Lastly, he has scored 12 goals so far this season and looks on course to get over 20 goals this season.
