Victory brings motivation

Motivation and inspiration can come in various forms throughout a football season. Last weekend’s victory that ended Real Madrid’s 40-match unbeaten run could be the turning point in Sevilla’s campaign.

More from La Liga

The encounter proved to everyone (perhaps even Sevilla themselves) that they can defeat the best clubs in La Liga and was a masterful team performance. Against the league leaders, Sampaoli’s squad were able to control the majority of possession and find the match-winner late in the contest.

Home form bodes well for the clubs chances moving forward as well. Sevilla hold a record of 8-0-1 in league play and have dominated many visiting clubs along the way. The one loss did come at the hands of Barcelona in November, but the club have improved immensely over that time.

Fitness will play a role in their finish as well. With Champions League commitments coming up and a visit to the Camp Nou at the beginning of April, Sevilla will need to continue their trend of strong squad rotation and contribution from a variety of sources.
