CB: Jan Vertonghen vs. John Stones

Another relatively easy choice is pitting Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen against Manchester City’s John Stones.

Outside of pass completion, the Belgian holds the advantage in just about every conceivable category. Vertonghen has completed more passes, won a higher percentage of his duels, intercepted more passes, and has completed more blocks than his English counterpart, all in just three more appearances

One interesting point to look at with Stones is that he has committed just three fouls all season, but his three defensive errors (to Vertonghen’s zero) have him in the doghouse on this occasion.

While Stones is also in the category of improving as the season goes on, what we’ve seen so far in total gives Jan Vertonghen the easy victory. However, it would be all too fitting for Stones to put in a master showing on Saturday afternoon.

Selection: Jan Vertonghen
