Manchester City vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Combined XI
LM: Christian Eriksen vs. Raheem Sterling
In the four-man midfield including those shelled out wide, Christian Eriksen is pitted against Raheem Sterling to make room for Dembele and Wanyama comparisons with Toure and Silva (spoiler!) with Fernandinho out for the weekend.
At first glance, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling seems to have the advantage with a higher percentage of successful take-ons as well as a better passing percentage. From a raw goals/assists standpoint, though, Eriksen is 100% the favorite.
When it looked like Eriksen’s slump seemingly had no clear end, the Danish midfielder burst onto the scene and has scored five goals with eight assists in his 20 appearances compared to five goals but four assists for Sterling. For City fans who want to cite the amount of attacking talent surrounding Sterling compared to Eriksen, one word: Dele.
Plus, Eriksen has created significantly more chances (58) compared to Sterling (29) and has also completed more key passes (50) than the Englishman (25). While Sterling certainly hasn’t been a disappointment this season, the re-emergence of Eriksen gives him the advantage.
Selection: Christian Eriksen
