Five clubs that should purchase Dimitri Payet

Sentimental value can be an important part of any transfer, as many footballers return to a former club or their home country when moving to a new side. Olympique de Marseille have the distinction of being both of those for Dimitri Payet.

For two seasons from 2013-2015, Payet’s game truly evolved. Utilised more in the middle of the pitch than on the wing, Payet’s passing ability was able to shine.

After one of the best seasons of his career during the 2014-15 campaign, Payet moved to the English Premier League with West Ham United. Marseille currently sit sixth in the Ligue 1 table and would love to see Payet make a glorious return to the Stade Velodrome.

Payet would be interested in returning to France, be closer to his family and still be a major part of the French national team. Marseille have made several bids to acquire Payet this month, but West Ham have refused to sell back their former player.

The current campaign could take a more positive turn if Marseille are able to bring Dimitri Payet back to the French first division.
