Tottenham v Manchester City: 6 reasons Spurs will triumph

6. Momentum

It’s a safe bet that City won’t play as poorly as they did against Everton, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to solve all of their problems in one week. Guardiola will have his troops give an improved effort, but it won’t be good enough to meet the Spurs standard.

Tottenham, in sharp contrast, come into the match flying high. They managed to drub a stubborn West Brom side 4-0 last week behind a hat trick from Harry Kane. Spurs actually come to the match having won six matches in a row.

The significant chasm between the recent fortunes of the two sides will help Pochettino’s squad immensely. Spurs can even afford to go down a goal and still maintain their sense of self-belief. If City go behind at any point in the match, they’ll lack the mental toughness to cope with the pressure.

As I said previously, look for City to come out and try to grab an early lead, but they just aren’t playing well enough to grab a decisively early lead. Tottenham will survive the early onslaught and continue their hot streak of football to an important victory.
