5. Hugo Lloris made two uncharacteristic mistakes

Hugo Lloris is considered one of the best keepers in the league, and even in the world, by many fans and experts. He is the captain of the French national team and a key part of Tottenham Hotspur back line that has conceded the second least goals this season in the league.

He has been known for his consistency and ability to handle pressure. So it was surprising to see him making two vital mistakes that almost costed his team all three points.

Both of City’s goals can be pointed directly at his errors. He tried clearing Kevin de Bruyne’s long ball to Leroy Sane in the 49th minute. However, he mistimed his header and the ball instead went straight to Sane. The German youngster was left with a wide open goal as he slotted the ball in for the opening goal.

Lloris made another awful mistake just five minutes later when he tried catching Raheem Sterling’s cross into the box. He fumbled the ball instead and sent it straight to the path of de Bruyne. The Belgian, just like his teammate Sane earlier, easily tapped it in to the open net to get the second goal.

Every player makes mistakes in football and it can be understandable. However, in Lloris’ case, his two mistakes in five minutes costed Spurs two points as they are set back further against the league leaders Chelsea. The French keeper quickly needs to figure out what went wrong for him in the Etihad Stadium.
