LFC/CFC: Get on the scoresheet early

Liverpool put Chelsea to the sword for Antonio Conte’s first loss in charge of the Blues in September, but history generally shows that the first side on the scoresheet takes the contest.

A fixture that usually carries significant implications, Chelsea cannot be caught at the top of the table even should they falter at Anfield. However, a win would cut Liverpool’s point gap to seven with enough left in the year to potentially make something happen. It is also possible that, if Liverpool win, a club like Arsenal is able to cut the deficit even closer to five points and thus opening the title race once again.

Both sides will need every bit out of each man on the field when the pair meet ahead of the last four months of the Premier League season, and a victory for either side will have a major effect on the table. Will that effect extend all the way through May? Time will tell.
